COOKING

PROGRAMS

Use simple cooking projects in the classroom to teach kitchen safety, math, reading, geography, history and science. Cooking rewards children with the learning experience, something yummy to eat and social benefits as the children interact and share a task completion.

Organizing cooking activities for kindergarten students teaches them how to measure, count, follow directions and use kitchen tools. The end products of these activities -- tasty snacks -- demonstrate the value of listening, learning and participating in the cooking process. Because children are too young to follow a complicated recipe or use dangerous kitchen appliances, teachers will choose simple recipes and help students with some of the steps.
